Dubin Family Lecture

Sponsored by the Gildenhorn Institute and the College of Arts and Humanities, the Dubin Family Lecture is given annually through a generous gift by the Dubin family.

The Dubin Lecture is the premier annual event in Israel studies and presents a major figure, who may come from the policy world, journalism, academia, diplomacy or politics.

It is always well attended by students, faculty and the UMD community. The latest event, held on September 16, 2024, at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Gildenhorn Recital Hall, featured International acclaimed author Etgar Keret who provided a captivating view of Israel through his distinctive storytelling, offering humor, heartbreak and hope.

Past speakers have included several Israeli ambassadors to the U.S., including Michael Herzog, Sallai Meridor, Dr. Michael Oren and Ron Dermer. There have also been distinguished politicians and former cabinet ministers such as Dr. Shlomo Ben-Ami, journalists such as David Sanger and Aluf Benn, and diplomats such as Dennis Ross.
