The minor in Jewish Studies offers students an opportunity to understand the full range of Jewish experience over the past four millennia. By exploring its history, literature, culture, philosophy, and texts, students complete the minor with a broad knowledge of Jewish life.
Students can earn a minor in Jewish Studies by taking 15 credits (5 courses) of Jewish Studies courses. No more than 6 of these credits can be earned at an institution other than UMD; up to 6 of these credits can be double-counted with an undergraduate major; at least 9 of these credits must be upper-level, at least 6 of which must be taken at the University.
Minor Requirements
Note that lower-level courses are at the 100- and 200-levels and upper-level courses are at the 300- and 400-levels.
The 15 credits must be distributed in the following manner:
- 1 course in Jewish history;
- 1 course in Jewish literature;
- 1 course in Jewish thought, religion, or culture;
- 2 courses in Jewish Studies (only 3 credits of lower-level Hebrew or Yiddish may be counted toward the minor)
