This talk examines Israel's ongoing political crisis following the 2023 judicial overhaul, highlighting renewed polarization ahead of the 2026 elections and its implications for democracy and the country's future.

With national elections scheduled for October 2026, the discourse has expanded and now addresses the foundations of the State of Israel itself—democracy, minority rights, state-synagogue relations, and the future of relations with the Palestinians. Reflecting on former Supreme Court President Aharon Barak’s stark warnings that Israel’s body politics is in "clear and present danger" and that it may “no longer be a liberal democracy”, this online event asks: can Israel’s fractured social, political, and ethnic mosaic survive an election cycle defined by such fundamental discord?
