Hava Tizazu

Hava Tizazu is the BAMAH Visiting Artist at the University of Maryland. She is a writer, director, actress, and activist who puts the experiences and stories of the Ethiopian community in Israel centerstage. Winner of the 2019 Yossi Harel Award for her show, "The Light of Almaz," which she wrote and produced, her newest work, “Where are you?” premiered at Habait Theatre in Jaffa in 2023 and continues to be performed throughout Israel. In 2024, her short movie "Sin above Sin" premiered at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.
Hava is active in the public sector in Israel. She serves as a member of the Israeli Council for Culture and Arts, and sits on the committees of Fringe Theater, Festivals, and Dance for Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sports. She is also a board member of the HaBima, Israel’s National Theater. In each of these roles, she aspires to give voice to those who are typically under-represented. In addition, Hava serves as Chair of the Board of “Call Activit” a movement that promotes black culture and art in Israel.
Hava holds a Bachelor's degree in African Studies and Theater from Tel Aviv University; a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and is a graduate of
the Nissan Nativ School of Acting.
