Visiting Assistant Professor of Yiddish Studies, Dr. Adi Mahalel received his doctoral degree in Yiddish and Hebrew Studies at Columbia University in May 2014. His thesis is on the radical period of Yiddish and Hebrew writer Y. L. Peretz under the supervision of Professors Dan Miron and Jeremy Dauber. Adi earned a joint degree in Hebrew Literature and in Humanities through the Ofakim honor’s degree program at Haifa University. Adi’s areas of interest include modern Yiddish and Hebrew literature, Jewish literatures, Jewish American theater, Israeli Yiddish literature, film and media studies, and the crossroads between culture and politics. He has taught courses in Yiddish culture and language at Columbia University and at the YIVO Institute. Adi is also a culture columnist at the Yiddish Forward.
