Dr. Royal provides an overview of Philip Roth’s various narrating voices and how these personae have contributed to Jewish American identity.

Derek Parker Royal is the founder and executive editor of Philip Roth Studies, as well as the founder of the Philip Roth Society.  He is the co-author of Philip Roth’s American Pastoral (2011), and editor of both Philip Roth: New Perspectives on an American Author (2005) and Unfinalized Moments: Essays in the Development of Contemporary Jewish American Narrative (2011).  He has published extensively on such topics as contemporary Jewish narrative, comic studies, multi-ethnic literature, and film. His upcoming books from the University Press of Mississippi include The Hernandez Brothers: Conversations and Coloring America: Multi-Ethnic Engagements in Recent Comics.  He is currently working on a series of essays on Jewish comics and graphic novels as well as a reevaluation of Philip Roth’s narratology.
