Dr. Hazkani (Ph.D., NYU, History and Jewish Studies, Expected April 2016) is a specialist in Israeli and Middle Eastern History. His doctoral thesis, "1948 from Below: A Transnational History of the War for Palestine," is a study of all of the soldiers—Israeli, Palestinian, Moroccan, Iraqi, Egyptian, Syrian and Lebanese—who fought in the 1948 war. It is based on a wide array of sources, including troves of letters sent home by soldiers.
Dr. Hazkani will teach undergraduate and graduate courses on the history of the Jews of Muslim lands, the migration of those Jews in the twentieth century to the State of Israel, and their subsequent history and acculturation in Israel.
